Talk, Plan and cancel, this are the three stages that our Team Outing/Picnic/Outbound exercise has been going through past one year.
Last Sunday that is on 27th July 2008 finally we were able to go for the picnic.
We had decided on a place called Maval Srushti to host us.
The Plan was to start by 6:30 AM and after picking up everyone, to reach the venue by 9 AM, so that we can have our breakfast there.
At around 6 AM I called the first person( read karan) to check if everything is fine and if he has got the contact number of the driver.I panicked when he did not attend my call.
I also got a sms from another team Member(read Rajneesh) that he will not be able to make it because he did not have a proper sleep.(What an excuse???) I called him up and scolded him badly but to no use.
Everyone in our team lives in different corners of the Pune city, and it tool nearly one and half hour to pick everyone.(It was a great effort because the driver needed directions.)
A few member of our team were feeling very lazy and sleepy as our team does not have a habit of getting up early.( Our working hours are 12:30 PM to 9:30 PM IST.)
But Rashmi, Aditi and myself, got everyone up from there sleep by singing horribly and terribly.
We reached at the venue by 9:30 AM and our day begin with a Poha which had tomatoes in it.The tea lacked milk and tea leaves, the coffee lacked milk and coffee.
After having a not so good breakfast we all went and hunt for a shaded place where in we could play some team building games.Manoj from SLC( Satyam Learning Centre) was accompanying us too.He was to coordinate all the team building exercises.
It was drizzling and the weather was really awesome. We had a great time carrying luggage in turns and searching, singingand dancing.
We found one nice shed and our first team activity began.
The details of the first team building activity we did are as:
We have to assume we were in a forest and we have to cross an acid river. We were having two cambin leaves(in form of sacks) which we can use twice and at all the times, the leaves need to have a human touch. After many strategies we were able to cross the river, but our way of doing it was not optimum.
After finishing the first game we had a five star each as a reward and we started playing the second game.
The details of the second game :
We were given 5 sheets of newspaper , a scissor and a cello tape, and we were to make a one foot tall, one foot wide and 2 feet long bridge with at least 2 arches and inclinations to go up and down.
We were divided into two teams of five each.
Both the teams were able to make the bridge and according to Manoj, one was and engineering excellence and the other excellent engineering.
Hunger took on its course and we went uphill to have a not so good lunch.
The curries were all sweet and the sweet dish was not sweet.
We returned down and chit chatted about cricketers, cricket and their lives for few minutes.
It was now time to play the third and I feel the most interesting game of the day.
4 ropes were tied to 2 poles, 2 ropes were again tied onto the ropes making it a matrices or Web of ropes.
There were 12 rectangles in which we had to scrap one and use rest 11 to pass on to other side, without our body or clothes touching the web.
Then came the fifth and the last of the team building games and I will call it N-Deal.
We were made to make a big circle, each one of us carrying a small rope tied to a bangle having 9 holes in it, and in the centre there was a ring in which few balls were placed, which we had to treat as Nuclear waste and using the ropes and the bangle we had to pick up each ball and dump the waste to a safe zone.( I know I did not describe the last game well.)
Once the team building exercise was over we all went to the waterfall , where we had great fun and took lots and lots of snaps.
We were very tired and carrying the entire luggage up was really a appreciable task, which myself, Manoj, Maran and Karan did in turns.
Once up we served with hot and nice ginger tea, and Upendra gave us Dairy Milk Wowies, which we savoured.
Back on the way we had corns to eat.
A fun and enjoyable trip, this came to an end.
